Hello, I'm Amy Hewitt

I’m a qualified Play Therapist (MA) registered with the British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT). I am based in Guildford, however I am also a 'travelling therapist', meaning I offer Play Therapy packages to schools in Surrey and surrounding areas.

I was raised in sunny Lancashire and I have over 10 years experience working with children, families and schools. I have always been passionate about making a difference to the lives of children and I believe my warm, welcoming and playful personality helps me to build trusting bonds with children.

Prior to my work as a play therapist I have worked as a nanny, therapeutic residential care worker, teaching assistant, youth worker and 1:1 special educational needs assistant.

My work as a therapeutic care worker within a children's residential home, allowed me to develop a passionate belief in the power that building a trusting and accepting relationship can have in making a real difference to the lives of others.

I completed my MA in Play Therapy at the University of Roehampton, where I gained a wealth of knowledge in child development, psychoanalytic and person centred theory and play therapy skills. I enjoy seeing the world from the eyes of the child and journeying to wherever their 'play world' takes us, ensuring I keep the child at the centre of the session.

I have worked with children experiencing various emotional challenges such as trauma, abuse, domestic violence, parental separation, bereavement, autism, global learning and anxiety.

I have a special interest in childhood trauma, Looked After Children and strengthening family relationships through creativity, curiosity and play.

In my free time I enjoy spending time in nature, with family, friends and animals. I plan to undergo Animal Assisted Play Therapy training and hope to incorporate a furry four legged animal friend into my sessions in the future! :)

"Amy is such a lovely, calm and caring person. She is always very positive and smiling, not judgmental and very understanding of different situations. Amy has a way to connect with children and gain their trust. I think the best thing about Bud 2 Bloom is Amy herself, her personality and views"
